Southwestern Energy Company (SWN) is an independent energy company primarily engaged inthe exploration and production of natural gas. Originally organized in 1929 as a local natural gasdistribution company in Arkansas, today Southwestern Energy is one of the largest natural gasproducers in the state of Arkansas with a majority of its production coming from the FayettevilleShale Play in north central Arkansas. Since announcement of the discovery of the FayettevilleShale play in 2004, Southwestern Energy has progressively increased its capital investments in thearea resulting in significant growth in natural gas production and reserves.
