Two essential activities provide the foundation for the study of information technology: development and use. Although they appear to be separate and distinct activities, they are fundamentally intertwined as each relies upon the other.
Consistent with its mission, the ITRI focuses on improving the three P's of developing and using information technology:
- The people involved in developing and using IT
- The process of developing and using IT
- The products developed or used in the development process.
Realizing the multi-disciplinary nature of information technology research, ITRI promotes research from many different areas that can potentially influence our understanding of information technology. ITRI firmly believes that the ultimate study of information technology will result from the collaborative efforts of the academic and business communities. ITRI promotes information technology research by providing research grants, matching faculty and organizations for research projects, and funding research-related activities.
